Former Pakistan President and chief of Army staff Pervez Musharraf passed away this morning in Dubai. He was suffering from a prolonged illness. He breathed his last at the American Hospital in Dubai. He was 79. There is no clarity about whether his body will be brought to Pakistan or not.

Musharraf was born on August 11, 1943, in Delhi. He completed his schooling at St Patrick’s High School in Karachi. He pursued higher education at Forman Christian College in Lahore.

He became the 10th President of Pakistan after the successful military coup in 1999. He also served as the 10th Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) from 1998 to 2001 and also as the seventh Chief of Army Staff from 1998 to 2007.

Last year, Musharraf’s family has announced that he was suffering from a disease called amyloidosis. This condition affects connective tissues and organs. It is a rare disease caused by the development of an abnormal protein called amyloid in organs and tissues all over the body.

Musharraf was living in exile for the last eight years after facing charges back home for the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. He wanted to return to Pakistan as soon as possible and spend the rest of his life in his home country.

Meanwhile, political leaders across the globe are sending their condolences to the grieving family.
