Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Hollywood actor and former governor of California, recently took matters into his own hands and fixed a pothole on a road in Los Angeles. In a video posted on his official Twitter account, Schwarzenegger can be seen wearing a jacket, boots, and sunglasses as he unloads a bag of tar and spreads it with a shovel, alongside other workers. As they finish filling the hole, Schwarzenegger adds handfuls of sand on top of it.
When a car driver halts in awe and thanks him, Schwarzenegger responds by saying, “You have to do it yourself. I mean, this is crazy. For three weeks, I have been waiting for this hole to be closed.” In his tweet, the 75-year-old actor stated, “Today, after the whole neighborhood has been upset about this giant pothole that’s been screwing up cars and bicycles for weeks, I went out with my team and fixed it. I always say, let’s not complain, let’s do something about it. Here you go.”
Since being shared on Wednesday, the video has garnered over 4.1 million views on Twitter, with many people praising Schwarzenegger for his actions. One user even tweaked a famous line from Schwarzenegger’s Terminator 2 movie, writing, “‘Come with me if you want to pave.'”
However, a senior public information director for the Department of Public Works in Los Angeles clarified that the hole was not a pothole, but rather a “service trench that relates to active, permitted work being performed at the location by SoCal Gas, who expects the work to be completed by the end of May.”
Despite the clarification, Schwarzenegger’s actions highlight the need for proactive community involvement in fixing infrastructure issues. As he stated in his tweet, rather than just complaining about a problem, people should take action to solve it. Schwarzenegger’s willingness to get his hands dirty and fix the problem himself serves as an inspiring example of civic responsibility and community service.
