The Indian government has dismissed former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s claims of pressure and threats to shut down the social media platform in India. Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekar called Dorsey’s allegations an “outright lie” and an attempt to deflect from the company’s controversial past.
Dorsey made these assertions during an episode of the YouTube show ‘Breaking Points with Krystal and Saagar.’ He alleged that the Indian government had demanded Twitter block accounts related to the farmers’ protests and threatened to raid the homes of its staff.
In response to queries about pressure from foreign governments, Dorsey mentioned India as a country that made numerous requests regarding the farmers’ protests and journalists critical of the government. He claimed that the Indian government threatened to shut down Twitter in the country, raid employees’ homes, and close down its offices if the platform did not comply. He emphasized that such actions were unexpected in a democratic country like India.
However, the Indian government has categorically denied these allegations, calling them baseless. Minister Rajeev Chandrashekar stated that Dorsey’s claims were an attempt to distort the company’s history during a controversial period.
It is important to note that these events and allegations are from a recent news article, and the accuracy and context should be considered when evaluating the claims made by both parties involved.
