The Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies i.e, Basara IIIT has yet again made it to the headlines with two students dying within a gap of 48 hours. Two days earlier, first year PUC student was found hanging in washroom and it was a case of suicide. On Thursday morning 17 years old Likitha died after she slipped from the fourth floor of the hostel building.
Noticing Likitha with injuries, the hostel staff immediately rushed her to Bhainsa hospital and then to Nirmal government hospital. However the doctors declared her dead. But it is clear whether Likitha committed suicide or was it an accident. The management of Basara IIIT issued a statement that it was an accident.
From Likitha parents’ we hear that she returned to the hostel earlier this week and now she is no more. The police have reached the spot and have deployed a clues team for any evidence. Simultaneously the police are examining the call data of Likitha.
These back-to-back incidents have rocked the Basara IIIT and recalled the old incidents when students protested for better infrastructure in 2022. Events like food poison and students committing suicide have become repetitive in Basara IIIT and the education department should seriously investigate the latest incidents to provide assurance for students who wish to continue their education at the institute.
