In a tragic incident, the US Coast Guard has confirmed that the missing submersible, named Titan, encountered a devastating implosion during its descent, resulting in the loss of all five individuals on board. The Coast Guard’s statement revealed that a robotic diving vehicle located a debris field from the submerged vessel resting on the seabed, identifying significant fragments of the Titan. However, there was no mention of human remains being found.
The ill-fated Titan was en route to explore the wreckage of the Titanic, situated approximately 12,500 feet beneath the surface, when communication with the surface vehicle was abruptly severed on Sunday. OceanGate Expeditions, the organization responsible for the mission, released a statement affirming the tragic outcome, stating that none of the five men on board the Titan survived.
The passengers aboard the Titan included Stockton Rush, the CEO of OceanGate Expeditions, who was piloting the mission. Also among them was Hamish Harding, a British billionaire and explorer, aged 58. Shahzada Dawood, a 48-year-old Pakistani-born businessman and his 19-year-old son, Suleman, both British citizens, were also on board. Additionally, the renowned French oceanographer and Titanic expert, Paul-Henri Nargeolet, 77, who had extensively visited the wreck on numerous occasions, completed the group of passengers.
