Some Clients Demanding ‘Work From Office’: Infosys CEO

Published by

The CEO of IT giant Infosys, Salil Parekh, recently revealed that some clients have started demanding work to be done from the office, despite the company offering flexibility in terms of remote work options. This statement comes in the wake of Infosys’ decision to end work from home for employees in its US and Canada offices, mandating a five-day office workweek.

During the company’s recent annual general meeting (AGM), a shareholder raised a query regarding the future of remote work at Infosys. In response, CEO Salil Parekh emphasized the importance of social capital and the need for people to connect with each other to facilitate new initiatives and training. He mentioned that while the company maintains a flexible approach to remote work, certain clients require employees to work from the office, and as a result, there are teams and employees working on-site within the campus.

Earlier, Infosys had communicated its decision to end work from home for employees in its US and Canada offices and had required special permission for remote work. The company also warned employees of possible disciplinary action if they fail to comply with the new work policy. However, this policy does not apply to Infosys’ offices in India.

Last year, Infosys implemented a three-phase plan in India to transition from remote work to office work. In the first phase, employees were allowed to come to the office twice a week based on their convenience. The second phase provided the option to relocate to a different branch or request a transfer. Finally, in the third phase, Infosys developed a hybrid work policy based on feedback received during the previous stages.

The company’s recent shift towards office work and the demands from clients highlight the ongoing discussions and challenges faced by organizations regarding remote work policies and the balance between employee flexibility and client requirements.
