Byju’s, one of the popular ed-tech startups in India, has been undergoing several troubles recently. Lawsuits, Auditing issues, boardroom exits, and layoffs have damaged the company’s reputation. Meanwhile, renowned filmmaker Hansal Mehta stated that the downfall of the Byju’s will make an excellent story for “Scam S4.”
Byju’s, a well-known ed-tech startup in India, has faced a series of challenges in recent times, including lawsuits, auditing concerns, boardroom departures, and staff layoffs. These issues have significantly tarnished the company’s reputation. Amid these troubles, acclaimed filmmaker Hansal Mehta expressed his belief that the downfall of Byju’s would make an intriguing narrative for “Scam S4.”
In October 2021, Hansal called Byju’s a total sham. Quoting that tweet now, he wrote, “There I said it two years ago. Scam S4 – The Byju scam.” He said that Byju’s story is total material for a scam series.
Hansal also said that a Byju’s representative visited his home during the lockdown and tried to sell the company products by claiming that his daughter was academically poor.
“I’d called out Byju’s when they came to my house trying to sell programs my daughter did not need during the pandemic. They tried to convince her that she was poor academically to make an extra buck. I had to drive them out of my house. I was trolled for mocking the so-called rags-to-riches story. I had to delete my tweets because of the abuse. As their house of cards begins to collapse, it’s time to remind ourselves that not all rags-to-riches stories are stories of honest intentions and legitimate wins.”
Hansal’s tweet has generated excitement among netizens, who are now urging him to create a series centered around Byju’s. Only time will tell if this suggestion materializes into a future project.
