Recently surfaced incident video of Manipur’s women being paraded naked triggered outrage across the country. Many reacted to the gruesome incident and demanded an arrest of the men in the mob who were in the video groping the women and allegedly murdered a teen brother of one of the women.
One of the victims in the video of Manipur women being paraded naked told that she was asked by the men to ‘lie down’ in the filed. ‘Three men surrounded me.. One of them told the other, ‘let’s rape her’, but they didn’t’ she said. She also said that she was lucky they did not rape her. She added, ‘But they grabbed my breasts.’
Two men who were seen dragging the women into farms in the video have been arrested, said CM N Biren Singh. One of the perpetrators, Heradas was arrested this morning, two months after the incident after the video went viral now. He was the man in a green T-shirt in the video. Police arrested another man in the video later in the evening.
The two women were part of a small group that fled for safety towards a forested area on the margins of a hills-valley on May 4. Violence erupted on May 3 between the valley-majority Meitei and the hill-majority Kuki tribe in Manipur over the Meiteis’ demand for Scheduled Tribes status.
The mob believed a fake video of a woman from their community being raped and started attacking the women of other community. A 19-teen-year-old man was allegedly killed in the incident when he tried to save his 21-year-old sister from the mob.
