Red Alert: Record Rainfall In Telangana

Published by

Telangana continues to experience heavy rainfall, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an orange alert for several parts of the state for the next two days. The downpour has caused waterlogging and disruption in daily life.

As of Wednesday morning, very heavy rainfall was recorded in isolated areas, with Venkatapuram in Mulugu district receiving 193.6 mm rainfall, followed by Karkagudem and Charla in Bhadradri Kothagudem district with 187.5 mm and 137.8 mm, respectively.

The IMD has issued warnings for extremely heavy rains in isolated places in Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, and Yadadri Bhuvangiri districts within the next 48 hours. Additionally, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in several districts, including Hyderabad, over the same period.

The capital city of Hyderabad has also experienced heavy drizzles throughout the day, and the state Met department predicts heavy rains to persist until Friday.

As a precautionary measure, the Telangana government has declared holidays for educational institutions on Wednesday and Thursday. Private offices, including IT companies, have been instructed to implement staggered timings to mitigate traffic congestion caused by the inclement weather.

Similarly, Andhra Pradesh has been witnessing heavy rains since Tuesday night. Several districts in the state have recorded substantial rainfall, with the Met department forecasting extremely heavy rainfall in some areas for the next 24 hours.

Fishermen have been cautioned against venturing into the sea due to squally weather conditions, with wind speeds expected to reach up to 45-55 km per hour, possibly rising to 65 km per hour, over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and advising residents to exercise caution and stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and advisories.
