Back in 2017, the drugs scandal stormed the Telugu film industry. A special investigation team (SIT) appointed by the Telangana government questioned director Puri Jagannadh, hero Ravi Teja, actors Subbaraju, Charmme Kaur, Tarun, Navdeep, Tanish, Mumaith Khan and many other celebrities.
But after this interrogation, the SIT went soundless and it’s been three years now and there is no update on the case. Regarding this scandal, Forum For Good Governance (FGG) has filed a RTI petition with the Excise department of Telangana.
In reply, the FGG received information that the SIT has filed 12 cases in connection with the scandal. Out of the 12 cases, the Excise department went on to file 8 chargesheets but it had no names of any Tollywood celebrities. However the interesting bit here, for the remaining four cases, the Excise department failed to provide chargesheet details.
Regarding the same, FGG representative and retired IAS officer said there seems to be a political pressure behind not providing the details of the four cases in which chargesheet was not filed. The ex-IAS officer questioned why the SIT did not probe the case further and when would the investigation get complete and what sort of action would be taken against the culprits.
In the RTI reply, the SIT claimed that the drugs are being transported from Germany, England and one more country by courier service. Also in the 12 chargesheets, many students’ names are being listed out.
