Published by

In yet another shooting in the US, an associate professor was killed. UNC-Chapel Hill graduate Tailei Qi, 34 has been charged with first-degree murder in Monday’s on-campus shooting.

An associate professor Zijie Yan, 38, in the university’s Department of Applied Physical Sciences died in the shooting. Qi allegedly shot Yan in the Caudill Labs building prompting a campus-wide shutdown and hours-long hunt for the shooter.

The shooter Tailei Qi a graduate student at UNC-Chapel Hill, was taken into custody Monday afternoon. Qi’s Twitter posts over the last year reveal that he expressed frustration with his work, graduate student colleagues, and his ‘PI’ or principal investigator.

‘Just feel my privacy was insulted. When I work, I will think I was showing the boss I am working instead of interests, devaluing the meaning of my work. That’s so disgusting. Self-respect block me from working. Then it takes pains to convince myself what I do is just because I like’, Qi wrote in his Twitter post on July 18, 2022.
