Citizens Need Not Carry Vehicle Documents From October 1

Published by

In a major amendment to the motor vehicle rules and for the convenience of both drivers and traffic officials, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is putting an end to carrying and showing the vehicle documents during the vehicle inspection. From October 1, the documents will be made available on an information technology portal.

According to the new amendments to be in the act from October 1, the Ministry of Road and Transport and Highways made changes on Central Motor Vehicle rules and they are implementing the electronic enforcement in the maintenance of vehicular documents through an information technology portal. This was required after the MV act 2019 was passed on August 9, 2019.

The main intention behind this seems to be making the vehicle users convenient and free them from harassments. The vehicular documents including driving licenses, e challans will be done through the information portal. The electronic monitoring is expected to provide better enforcement of traffic rules, also by ending harassment of drivers.

As per the amendments, the details of driving licenses, disqualified or revoked would be recorded in chronological order and the records would be reflected on a regular basis on the portal. This would be of help to monitor the behavior of a motorist.

In a major change, upon demanding or inspecting any documents, the date and time stamp of inspection along with the identity of the police officer in uniform or any other government officer, would be recorded on the portal. This is to avoid unnecessary re-checking or inspection of vehicles.
