Fake Ayodhya Prasadams On Amazon, Centre Serious

Published by

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued a notice to Amazon based on a complaint by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), alleging deceptive trade practices related to the sale of sweets claiming to be ‘Sri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad.’ With the upcoming consecration of the Ram Mandir on January 22, the complaint accuses Amazon of misleadingly representing these products as prasad. The CCPA has given Amazon seven days to respond and warned of potential action under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

The regulatory authority highlighted that various sweets, such as ‘Raghupati Ghee Ladoo’ and ‘Desi Cow Milk Peda,’ were listed on Amazon with misleading claims. This practice, as per the CCPA, may influence consumer decisions by providing false representations of the products. In response, Amazon stated that they are “taking appropriate actions” as per their policies and investigating the misleading product claims to address them accordingly, emphasizing the importance of adherence to consumer protection regulations.
