Another baffling performance from their top-order batsmen resulted in a third straight loss for Rajasthan Royals in this edition of IPL. Defending champions Mumbai Indians beat RR by 57 runs. While chasing a total of 194, Rajasthan got all-out for 136. Barring Jos Buttler, no batsmen stood up for Rajasthan in this game.
After winning the toss, Rohit Sharma said that his team would like to bat first. His decision was a good one as Mumbai got a great start from openers Rohit (35) and de Kock (23). They made a 49-run stand for the first wicket. Young bowler Karthik Tyagi then dismissed de Kock. Later, Rohit and Surya Kumar Yadav (79*) kept the scoreboard going. RR got a big break in the 10th over when Shreyas Gopal got the wickets of Rohit and Ishan Kishan in consecutive balls.
Though wickets fell on the other end, Surya Kumar Yadav kept batting with full confidence. Thus, he scored his maiden-fifty of this season. In the backend of the innings, Yadav got nice support from Hardik Pandya (30*). Both of them gave Mumbai a high score of 193/4.
RR needed a thunderous start while chasing this total. But they once again failed to do well. Opener Yashaswi Jaiswal got out for a duck in the first over. Captain Steve Smith went back to the pavilion in the second over. Sanju Samson was dismissed in the third over. After the fall of those three wickets, Jos Buttler (70) was the only hope left for Rajasthan. He tried his best to give a win for his team but the asking rate was very high when he got going.
Finally, Buttler got dismissed by a blinder taken by Pollard. Later, there was no recovery for Rajasthan. Jasprit Bumrah (4/20) has put a stunning performance on the bowling front for Mumbai. Eventually, they got all-out for 136. Rajasthan will next play against Delhi Capitals on October 9 and Mumbai will face Delhi Capitals on October 11.
