Chennai Super Kings have lost yet another match due to the failure of their middle-order batsmen. In a game that they could have won quite comfortably, CSK lost it by 10 runs. All credit goes to the bowlers of Kolkata Knight Riders, who banked on CSK’s weakness and had never let them score during the backend of the second innings.
As expected, Dinesh Karthik chose to bat first after winning the toss. KKR brought in Shubman Gill and Rahul Tripathi (81) as openers in this match. The latter played a great innings and proved why he has to be sent up in the order. Though he failed to get any solid partnership, Tripathi played a great knock and kept the scoreboard going. None of the other batsmen have played as comfortable as him. CSK bowlers restricted Kolkata in not scoring runs at a high-rate. Thus, Kolkata managed to score 167/10 in 20 overs. For CSK, Bravo took three wickets. Karn Sharma, Shardul Thakur and Sam Curran scalped two wickets each.
While chasing this total, CSK lost the wicket of in-form Faf du Plessis pretty early. However, Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu settled the innings by making 69 runs partnership. When CSK was sailing towards the win, Watson and Rayudu got out in consecutive overs. Sam Curran and MS Dhoni had a job to do but the latter went back to the pavilion in the 17th over.
In the 18th over, Russell got rid of in-form Sam Curran. Kedhar Jadhav and Ravindra Jadeja had the responsibility of winning the match but they failed to do so and ended the innings with a score of 157/5. Chennai will next play against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata will take on Kings XI Punjab on October 10.
