US : Trump – Biden’s Second Debate Cancelled

Published by

The most awaited second debate of US Presidential elections between US President, Republican’s nominee Donald Trump and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, which was supposed to take place on October 15, has been cancelled. This is after the non-partisan commission announced that the debate would take place virtually. Snubbing the invite for virtual debate, Donald Trump said he will not participate in the next debate. Trump, who is seeking re-election on Nov 3, on Thursday called the format change “ridiculous” and said it would be a waste of his time to take part.

Joe Biden’s campaign team criticised Trump’s move to evade the second and crucial presidential debate. “It’s shameful that Donald Trump ducked the only debate in which the voters get to ask the questions – but it’s no surprise,” Biden campaign spokesman Andrew Bates said. Biden’s campaign team has organised a televised town hall-style event on Oct 15 evening with Joe Biden. With this, the final debate between presidential nominees will be held on October 22 in Nashville, Tennessee. The Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) is now making preparations for the final presidential debate.

Meanwhile, Trump, who is in quarantine at the White House, is yet to come out to participate in the election campaign. Vice President Mike Pence has campaigned in Nevada and Arizona, the two states which Republicans are hoping to win on the Election Day. Donald Trump Jr, son of Donald Trump, held an indoor rally at a hotel in Panama City Beach, Florida.

It can be noted that Trump is facing tough competition from Democratic challenger Joe Biden. Several online polls in America indicated that Americans are “losing” confidence in President Trump’s handling of Covid-19 pandemic. One has to wait and watch, what is in store for the US.
