In the second encounter tonight, Mumbai Indians had a victory over Delhi Capitals by five wickets. With a good all-round show from both the batsmen and the bowlers, Mumbai has managed to sneak in two points through this game and climbed up to the first position on the points table.
Shreyas Iyer said that Delhi Capitals will bat, after winning the toss. He didn’t get a good start as their opener Prithvi Shaw was dismissed by Trent Boult in the first over. Within no time, Ajinkya Rahane also got out without making any impact. Then, Shikhar Dhawan (69*) and Shreyas Iyer (42) played a responsible game by creating a partnership of 85 runs. In the 15th over, Iyer got out. But Dhawan remained in the crease till the end. With the help of Marcus Stoinis and Alex Carey, Dhawan gave a defendable total of 162/4 in 20 overs.
Mumbai started attacking Delhi’s bowlers right from the beginning while chasing this total. While Rohit Sharma played a slow game, it was Quinton de Kock (53) who went on a rampage by hitting huge shots. Delhi managed to scalp Rohit’s wicket soon. But de Kock and Surya Kumar Yadav (53) have set up a platform for Mumbai’s win. After both of their dismissals, even Hardik Pandya got out for a duck. This series of events made the match a bit interesting. However, Mumbai batsmen held their nerves and managed to score 166/5 in 19.4 overs. Delhi will next take on Rajasthan Royals on October 14 and Mumbai will face Kolkata Knight Riders on October 16.
