The billboard collapsed in Mumbai yesterday due to a dust storm that killed 14 people and injured more than 74 others. The case has been filed against one Bhavesh Bhinde for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Bhinde did several contracts from the Indian Railways and the Mumbai civic body for erecting hoardings and banners over the years and has violated the rules several times.
The hoarding that fell on the fuel station in Ghatkopar was a 120×120-foot structure and BMC has said that billboards over 40×40 feet in size are not allowed. Binde’s agency claims to have received permission from the Assistant commissioner of Police.
It is learned that Bhavesh Bhinde has over 20 cases against him, including a rape case!
Bhinde is on the run and his phone is switched off as of now. Bhinde is an advertising agency owner and also contested as an independent candidate from the Mulund constituency in 2009. There are 23 cases registered against him under the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act and the Negotiable Instruments Act.
A rape case was filed against Bhinde in January this year at Mulund Police Station.
