In a major shock to the employees of Walmart in the US, the company announced to cut of hundreds of jobs and also instructed the remote working employees to relocate.

Walmart Inc on Tuesday announced that it plans to cut hundreds of jobs at its headquarters and relocate a majority of its US and Canada-based remote employees to three offices.

The giant company allowed its employees to work remotely during the pandemic and like many other companies, has been endorsing the workforce to shift to the headquarters in Bentonville of Arkansas state and to its offices in the San Fransisco Bay Area and New Jersey now.

“We are asking the majority of associates working remotely, and the majority of associates within our offices in Dallas, Atlanta, and our Toronto Global Tech office, to relocate,” Donna Morris, Walmart’s chief people officer wrote in a memo to its U.S. campus associates on Tuesday.

The retail giant also announced it was reducing ‘several hundred’ roles due to changes in some parts of its business. Those who choose to leave will receive two weeks’ pay for every year they worked at Walmart as severance.

Walmart is the world’s largest retailer and the country’s largest private employer with over 2 million workers globally.

Getting back to offices is the new normal and it is not just Walmart, but many companies across the US have been making it mandatory for employees to be in the office at least a few days in a week.
