Chennai Super Kings have finally found momentum in this edition of the Indian Premier League. An all-round team effort has resulted in a win for them against Sunrisers Hyderabad by 20 runs. Barring Kane Williamson, no other batsman of Hyderabad tried to put an effort while chasing a total of 168.
After winning the toss, MS Dhoni said that CSK will bat first. They sent Sam Curran as an opener this time and the idea worked out big time as Curran played quickfire innings. However, SRH managed to dismiss both Curran and Faf du Plessis inside the power play. But Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu played with intent and built a solid partnership. Their 81-run stand played a huge role in CSK’s batting. Later, both of them got out in the consecutive overs. In the backend of the innings, MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja played some big shots and ended with a score of 167/6. Sandeep Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed and Natarajan picked up two wickets each.
Sunrisers Hyderabad needed a big partnership from its openers to chase this kind of a total. But they didn’t get it as Curran dismissed Warner in the fourth over. In the very same over, even Manish Pandy got run-out. That moment pushed SRH into deep trouble. Very soon, even Jonny Bairstow went back to the pavilion.
Kane Williamson was the only hope left for them. He tried his best but he didn’t get any support from the other batsmen. Finally, he got out in the 18th over. After his wicket, SRH’s defeat was inevitable. In the end, they managed to score 147/8 in 20 overs. Chennai will next face Delhi Capitals on October 17 and Hyderabad will take on Kolkata Knight Riders on October 18.
