The Southwest Monsoon has arrived in Kerala and advanced into most parts of Northeast India, as announced by India’s weather office. This is earlier than the forecasted date of May 31 and that is a big sign of relief from the Summer heat.
The monsoon hit Kerala’s coast a day earlier than expected, and weather scientists believe that Cyclone Remal, which struck West Bengal and Bangladesh on Sunday, may have contributed to its early onset in the northeast.
Kerala has been experiencing heavy rains for the past few days, resulting in a surplus of May rainfall. The Southwest Monsoon is crucial for India’s agriculture, as 52% of the net cultivated area depends on it.
However, this brings us to the question, when would the ‘monsoon’ arrive in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, in a city like Hyderabad where temperatures are scorching?
Weather experts are predicting that the monsoon might touch Hyderabad on June 8th and a day before that in parts of AP, as the monsoon winds are likely to touch on that date only.
