In a move to ensure food safety and quality for its citizens, the Telangana government, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, has launched a crackdown on popular eateries and restaurants across Hyderabad.
The Food Safety Department, along with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), has been conducting inspections at various establishments to identify and address hygiene violations and the use of expired or substandard food items.
The inspections have revealed a worrying picture of the state of hygiene at many popular eateries in the city. From top restaurants to some eateries all over Hyderabad city, Warangal and Badrachalam, were raided by the task force. Expired chicken masala, sausages, pizza cheese, paneer, ice cream, and almond fudge have been found in warehouses, along with evidence of oil leakage and contaminated food articles. In one instance, the license of a Big Basket warehouse was suspended due to these violations.
The raids have also uncovered other issues, such as the presence of cockroaches in kitchens, the use of synthetic food colors, unhygienic conditions, and the lack of proper documentation like medical fitness certificates for food handlers and FSSAI licenses. These findings highlight the need for stricter enforcement of food safety regulations and better practices among food establishments.
The crackdown comes in response to complaints from consumers about deteriorating food quality, particularly regarding stale, insect-infested food and unpleasant odors from certain dishes, especially non-vegetarian ones. This initiative by the Telangana government and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is a commendable step towards protecting public health and promoting responsible business practices in the food industry.
By maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards food safety violations, surely Revanth Sircaar would make a name for itself.
