Veteran playback singer Alka Yagnik recently revealed that she has been diagnosed with sensorineural hearing loss, a degenerative condition affecting the neural pathways of the inner ear.
In an emotional Instagram post, Alka shared her experience of suddenly losing her hearing after getting off a flight a few weeks ago. Initially alarmed by the silence, she later sought medical advice and got diagnosed. The veteran singer has revealed that a viral attacked is responsible for her hearing loss.
Alka expressed her desire to break her silence to address the concerns of her fans and well-wishers. She emphasized the unexpected nature of this setback and her ongoing efforts to come to terms with it.
Alka also used this moment to caution her younger colleagues about the potential dangers of prolonged exposure to loud music and headphones.
Despite the challenging times she is in, Alka remains hopeful and determined to return to her professional commitments. She expressed her gratitude for receiving support from her fans, which she believes will be invaluable as she navigates this critical period.
Alka’s heartfelt message concluded with a request for prayers and well-wishes, underscoring the importance of community and support in her journey towards recovery.
Sensorineural hearing loss, also known as SNHL, is the most common type of permanent hearing loss, accounting for about 90% of all hearing loss cases. SNHL occurs due to damage to the inner ear (cochlea) or to the nerve pathways from the inner ear to the brain.
Causes can include aging, exposure to loud noise, genetic factors, certain illnesses, and ototoxic medications. While SNHL itself is common, the specific underlying causes or conditions leading to it, such as a viral attack as mentioned in Alka Yagnik’s case, might be less common.
