The failure of the batsmen has once again resulted in a defeat for Kolkata Knight Riders. They had lost the match by 8 wickets against Mumbai Indians. Kolkata’s batsmen are completely responsible for this failure. Meanwhile, Mumbai gave a stupendous performance in both the departments to seal this big victory.
After winning the toss, KKR’s new captain Eoin Morgan chose to bat. He didn’t get the start he wanted as Rahul Tripathi and Nitish Rana got out inside the powerplay. Within 10 overs, KKR lost the wickets of Dinesh Karthik, Shubman Gill and Andre Russell as well. After that, Eoin Morgan (39) and Pat Cummins (53) played cautiously and managed not to lose a wicket. Cummins scored a half-century as well. However, by the end of 20 overs, they scored only 148/5. Rahul Chahar scalped two wickets while Bumrah, Boult and Coulter-Nile got one wicket each.
While KKR batters made it look like a bowling pitch, Mumbai batsmen made it look like a batting pitch. Openers Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma played very comfortable game right from the beginning. de Kock enjoyed playing against KKR’s bowlers as he hit them all around the ground. After a 95-run stand, Rohit Sharma got dismissed. In the 14th over, Varun Chakravarthy bowled out Surya Kumar Yadav. Later, de Kock and Hardik Pandya finished the job by scoring 149/2 in just 16.5 overs. Kolkata will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai will take on Kings XI Punjab on October 18.
