The ministry of Railways has finally responded on the ongoing rumours about the new rules regarding its official ticket booking portal, IRCTC ( Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation).
From the past couple of days, media portals all over the country have been reporting that the Indian Railways has come up with a new set of rules which permits only registered agents to book tickets for third party customers and also debars individuals to book tickets for relatives, friends and others through their personal IDs. The rumours further added that those who book tickets for others will be charged under section 143 of the Railways Act. It was reported that one can book tickets only for self or to those with the same username.
This news created a lot of confusion among the railway passengers because it would be very difficult for those without an IRCTC user ID to book tickets whenever they are in need and also due to the fact that not everyone can afford to get tickets through authorised agents during emergency times.
As there has been growing dissidence from all and sundry over these rumours, IRCTC finally refuted them and cleared the air. It asserted that these reports are misleading and not true. Clearing the air on the issue, IRCTC informed that tickets can be booked for friends, family members and relatives. It said that booking can be done for 12 tickets per month on one user ID and 24 tickets per month on Aadhaar authenticated user ID.
Needless to say, the formal statement from IRCTC came as a huge sigh of relief for the public.
