In a tragic development, a Kerala man died when he was traveling in a train after the upper berth had fallen on him. The incident occurred when 62-year-old Ali Khan was traveling from Thrissur to New Delhi on Ernakulam-Hazrat Nizamuddin Express. The tragic accident took place on June 16th.
However, Ali Khan died on Monday while he was undergoing treatment for the same. Ali Khan’s brother, Backer, briefed the incident and mentioned that his brother accompanied a friend during the train journey.
“The incident happened on the evening of June 16 when Alikhan was on the lower berth. The upper berth came apart and fell on Alikhan when the train was passing through Telangana. The co-passengers immediately informed the TTE, who intervened in getting the medical attention at a local hospital at the Warangal station. By then, the train had covered over 100 kilometers after the mishap. The next day, he was shifted to another hospital in Hyderabad, where he underwent a major surgery last Saturday. He died on Monday,” he said.
Ali Khan’s family members have registered a case with the Railway police. However, the railway authorities claim that the berth was functioning alright, and they checked it at Hazrath Nizamuddin. We hear that the upper berth seat fell down due to the improper placement of the passenger’s chain.
The Railway police are investigating the incident and more details will be out soon.
