Nominated Rajya Sabha MP, Sudha Murthy delivered her first speech in parliament the other day and she stood out from the rest by delivering an insightful speech. Her speech is now going viral on social media. Sudha Murthy raised two key points in her speech, the cervical cancer vaccination drive and the development of domestic tourism.
Sudha Murthy said that vaccination will be given to girls aged between 9 and 14 years to prevent cervical cancer. She requested the government to take up this cervical vaccination drive across the country and save girls from this cancer. She pointed out that prevention is better than cure.
She remarked that India successfully conducted the world’s largest vaccination drive during the COVID-19 pandemic and said that holding cervical vaccination would not be difficult for the government.
Sudha Murthy also explained the need to promote domestic tourism. She said that there are 42 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the country and added that 57 other tourist sites need this recognition. These sites include the Bahubali statue in Karnataka, Lingaraja Temple, Shivaji Forts in Maharashtra, Unakoti rock cravings in Tripura, Chausath Yogini temple in Mitawali etc.
She said that providing good road and toilet facilities to tourists at all tourist destinations would boost revenue and tourist culture in the country.
Sudha Murthy was nominated as the MP of Rajya Sabha by President Droupadi Murmu on March 8th this year, on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
