Covid-19 has brought many difficulties to people’s daily life. There have been set-backs in every industry and the financial loss is the highest our country has ever faced. But, the major set-back has been faced by the educational system. Many schools have shut down initially due to the Covid-19 outbreak. But, by the month of June most of the schools have decided to resume classes online. The issue here was how many students couldn’t afford to pay for laptops or smart-phones to attend these classes. Many organizations came forward to help a few students with smart-phones and laptops but new problems like not being able to have a proper internet connection or the finances to support these online classes.
In such situations, many people have come forward with a good heart and started offering these under-privileged kids an opportunity to study further for free of cost. One such person is Than Singh. Than Singh voluntarily teaches for laborers children near Sai Temple complex at Red Fort in New Delhi. He has been doing the same for many years now. However, he had to stop for a while due to the pandemic.
As the online classes resumed, Than Singh realized that many children around the neighborhood couldn’t afford privileges like phones and laptops or even internet connection. So, he took it upon himself single-handedly to resume teaching these kids again physically. But, Than Singh has also taken enough precautions before resuming his classes. He has provided the children with masks and sanitizer; and he also assures others that the children and he follow all the social distancing rules. Than Singh also makes sure that the children know what basic hygiene is and teaches the children about sanitary and good habits.
Individuals like Than Singh are what make the society a better place for the rest of us. Many people have been appreciating Than Singh’s over social media. The country needs many such people in the wake of a pandemic.
