Social media was awash with images of the heavy rush at the Mumbai airport this morning.
You will be mistaken if you think all of them are air passengers. They stormed the airport following the announcement of Air India’s recruitment drive.
All of them were unemployed youth seeking a job with the airliner.
The airliner conducted recruitment drive to fill 2,216 vacancies and the youth who tried to submit their certificates at the counter, jostled among themselves and even the security staff who tried to control them.
Several youth felt inconvenient while some others took ill unable to breathe in the crowd. They also could not get food and water during their long stay at the airport.
According to media reports, the drive was held to fill vacancies relating to loader posts.
Youth recruited in the post will have to load and unload baggage of the passengers from the aircraft. They will also have to check the baggage belts. Each aircraft will need 5-6 loaders to manage the luggage and cargo. They would be paid a salary of Rs 20,000-Rs 25,000. In case, they work overtime, they can earn up to Rs 30,000.
It would be sufficient if the candidates seeking this job have minimum educational qualifications but they would mandatorily be required to be strong physically.
It is learnt that some of the candidates travelled for more than 400 km to apply for the job. While some had completed their post graduation, a few had completed their graduation.
It may be recalled that a similar scene was witnessed at Ankaleshwar in Gujarat where the candidates jostled among themselves.
