Kings XI Punjab registered their third win in a row and is still in the race of a playoff berth. They won today’s match against Delhi Capitals by five wickets. Shikhar Dhawan scored yet another century in this season but it didn’t help his team to cruise past a victory. With this win, Punjab is now on the sixth position of the points table.
After winning the toss, Shreyas Iyer said that Delhi will bat first. Once again, the openers failed to build a big partnership as Prithvi Shaw got out in the fourth over. Then, Shikhar Dhawan (106*) and Shreyas Iyer (14) tried to build the innings. Dhawan continued his spectacular form in this match as well. He got good support from Iyer, Pant (14), Stoinis and Hetmyer. While the other batsmen failed to score big numbers, Dhawan played some masterstrokes and achieved his second consecutive century. His unbeaten 106-run stand helped Delhi to post a total of 164/5 in 20 overs.
KXIP failed to get a good start while chasing this total as in-form KL Rahul got out in the third over. Then, Chris Gayle (29) and Mayank Agarwal went back to the pavilion in the sixth over. Thus, Punjab lost three major wickets inside the powerplay. That’s when Nicholas Pooran (53) and Glenn Maxwell (32) brought their team back into the game by creating a partnership of 69 runs. Pooran played a stupendous game and scored a half-century. He got out in the 13th over, only after placing Punjab in a comfortable position to win the game. When Punjab was cruising towards victory, Kagiso Rabada scalped the wicket of Maxwell. However, that didn’t stop Kings from getting a win as Deepak Hooda and Jimmy Neesham have completed the formalities in the end. Thus, KXIP scored 167/5 in 19 overs. Kings XI Punjab will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals will take on Kolkata Knight Riders on October 24.
