Mohammed Siraj’s career-best spell and Yuzevendra Chahal’s stunning show have helped Royal Challengers Bangalore to restrict Kolkata Knight Riders for a mere total of 84. RCB has chased this total by scoring 85/2 in just 13.3 overs and won the match by eight wickets. It has moved an inch closer to a playoff berth. Meanwhile, 84 is the lowest total made by any team in this year’s IPL.
KKR’s skipper Eoin Morgan chose to bat first after winning the toss. He got the worst start possible as KKR lost the wickets of Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi, Nitish Rana and Tom Banton in the powerplay itself. Right after the powerplay, Dinesh Karthik got dismissed. Except for Eoin Morgan (30), no one played well for KKR. Thus, they have managed to score 84/8 in 20 overs. It was Mohammed Siraj (3/8) who caused this major destruction. He scalped three wickets inside the powerplay and also bowled two consecutive maiden overs. RCB’s star bowler Yuzvendra Chahal (2/15) also delivered a good spell.
It was a cake-walk for RCB to chase this little total. Though they lost the wickets of both the openers Aaron Finch (16) and Devdutt Padikkal (25) in the seventh over, they were never in trouble. Virat Kohli (18) and Gurukeerat Mann (21) have scored the required target and helped their team to win the match by 8 wickets. KKR will next face Delhi Capitals on October 24 and RCB will take on Chennai Super Kings on October 25.
