With every match, Chennai Super Kings are getting down to a lower level. Tonight, they witnessed a massive defeat against the mighty Mumbai Indians by 10 wickets. It was a complete failure from both batsman and bowlers which resulted in this huge loss. Now, the team’s chances of qualifying to playoffs are less than one per cent.
In the absence of Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard took up the captaincy responsibilities of Mumbai Indians. He won the toss and chose to bowl. Mumbai got a stunning start as Trent Boult (4/18) and Jaspirt Bumrah (2/25) scalped five wickets in the power play. Within nine overs, Chennai lost seven wickets for a score of 43. When they were on a verge of getting all-out for a disastrous total, Sam Curran (52) saved them. He made good partnerships with Shardul Thakur (11) and Imran Tahir (13*) during the later part of the innings. With the help of his half-century, CSK made a total of 114/9 in 20 overs.
Mumbai got a dream start in the second innings as well. Openers Quinton de Kock (46) and Ishan Kishan (68) gave a thumping start to their team. They started hitting right from the word go and smashed balls all over the park. Chennai’s bowlers were clueless in bowling to this duo. Within no time, Kishan also completed his half-century. With the help of their blistering play, Mumbai scored 116/0 in just 12.2 overs. Thus, Mumbai got a huge win on their arch-rivals. MI will next face Rajasthan Royals and CSK will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore on October 25.
