Chennai Super Kings witnessed a nightmarish and humiliating loss against Mumbai Indians last night in Sharjah. The lack of intent from both the batsmen and bowlers resulted in this 10-wicket loss for the men in yellow. Meanwhile, there is a unique record made by CSK batsmen against Mumbai Indians in this game. That is the highest partnership for the ninth wicket. The 43-run partnership between Sam Curran and Imran Tahir is the highest ninth-wicket partnership in the history of IPL.
When it seemed like CSK will get all-out under 100, these two batsmen played with intent and gave their team a modest total. Their partnership played a crucial role in CSK’s total of 114. Earlier, the highest ninth-wicket partnership was 41 runs. It came on two occasions in the past and was also made by CSK batsmen. In 2013, Dhoni and Ashwin built a partnership of 41 runs. Again in 2018, Bravo made a partnership of 41 runs with Imran Tahir. Interestingly, these top-three ninth-wicket partnerships came against Mumbai Indians. In this way, CSK made a unique record against Mumbai.
Curran’s 52 helped CSK to post a score of 114. However, Mumbai chased the total without losing any wicket. Openers Quinton de Kock and Ishan Kishan started and finished the formalities for the men in blue.
