IPL 2020: Mumbai Almost Seals A Playoff Berth By Beating RCB

Published by

Surya Kumar Yadav gave a befitting reply to BCCI selection committee for not picking him up for upcoming Australia tour. He played a phenomenal knock tonight and gave a five-wicket victory to Mumbai Indians against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Mumbai is now just a one step away from qualifying officially for the playoffs.

After winning the toss, Mumbai’s skipper Kieron Pollard chose to bowl first. RCB banked on this opportunity as it got a stunning start from the openers Devdutt Padikkal (74) and Josh Philippe (33). This duo’s 71-run partnership made RCB to settle in a solid spot. However, Mumbai came back strong by dismissing Philippe, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Shivam Dube and Chris Morris in regular intervals. While the other batsmen were struggling to score, Padikkal played shots with ease and got yet another half-century of this edition. By the end of 20 overs, RCB scored 164/6. Jasprit Bumrah (4-1-14-3) delivered a stunning spell by scalping three wickets.

Mumbai got a shacky start while chasing a target of 165. Their opener Quinton de Kock got dismissed in the sixth over. Another opener Ishan Kishan got out in the eighth over. Within no time, even Saurabh Tiwary got out. Very soon after that, Krunal was dismissed by Chahal. Although RCB managed to pick up wickets regularly, Surya Kumar Yadav (79*) stopped them from being dominant in the game. He played exquisite shots which were a treat to watch. He scored a 50 off just 29 balls. He got good support from Hardik Pandya. They made a partnership of 51 runs. Pandya then got out in the 19th over. After that, Yadav finished off the things on the first ball of the last over. Thus, Mumbai won the game by scoring 166/5 in 19.1 overs. Mumbai will next face Delhi Capitals and Bangalore will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad on October 31.
