US: Trump Brings Back The ‘Immigration Hardliner’

Published by

US President-elect Donald Trump brings the Immigration hardliner Stephen Miller back into the new administration.

Stephen Miller is all set to be the deputy chief of staff for policy in the new administration.

Stephen Miller is a former senior advisor to President Donald Trump who recently promised a 100 percent perfect deportation rate.

Senator JD Vance, the Vice-president elect confirmed the pick on X. ‘This is another fantastic pick by the president, Congrats Stephen Miller, Vance posted.

The ‘Immigration Hardliner’ is the one who earlier proposed several measures that could significantly impact the H-1B visa program.

Here are some proposals and measures by Stephen Miller in Trump’s previous term…

  • There was a huge increase in H-1B denials rates and requests for evidence (RFEs) during the Trump rule.
  • Miller advocated for higher wage requirements for H-1B visa holders potentially pricing out many foreign workers.
  • Miller reportedly advocated to reduce the number of H-1B visas issued annually.
  • Advanced degrees – The administration previously adjusted the lottery system to favor candidates with advanced degrees.

Apart from the policies’ impact on H-1b Visas, Miller also influenced other programs like the OPT program by limiting or eliminating the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program attempts.

Miller also made efforts to restrict work rights for spouses of H-1B workers.

It has to be seen how the Immigration Hardliner will bring more changes to the policies.
