As harrowing and detrimental as it can be, India is acclimatised to begging and foraging culture. We often see beggars and dwellers on the roads and traffic signals who lead sorrow lives and beg for livelihood.
However, there is one beggar on the streets of Mumbai, who is richer than most of the average Indians. This man is named Bharat Jain and he is self proclaimed richest beggar in the world.
On most days, Bharath Jain can be found begging for money at the famous Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj terminus in Mumbai. As is any other begger, he too will be seen in a very modest and typical beggar attire, requesting people for money.
But don’t mistake him for a poor man. As shocking as it might sound, Bharat Jain reportedly has assets worth over ₹7.5 crore. On top of that, he has two flats in Mumbai and a couple of commercial shops in Thane.
On average Bharath makes around ₹60,000-₹70,000 per month by begging on the streets of Mumbai. He has been doing this for the last 40 years and has made a fortune from the same. He was clever with his investments as a result of which he has multiple properties in Mumbai and Thane.
If you are wondering, why Bharath is still begging on the streets, while he has a strong rental revenue and a couple of own flats, his response is astounding. Bharath says he takes pleasure in begging, and that is why he is continuing to do so, despite the reluctance of his family members.
Bharath is 54 years old now, and has assets valued at ₹7.5 crore. Despite the hefty fortune that he has amassed, he wishes to keep on begging as long as he can.
