If there was one foreigner who has been a household name in Hyderabad over the last couple of years, it must definitely be David Warner. The flamboyant left-handed batsman, also the captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team has been the talk of the town right from the beginning of this COVID, entertaining us with dance videos of popular Telugu songs. His wife and his little daughter featuring in them have made it more fun altogether.
Back to this IPL season, he has had a slow start, but towards the later stages, when his need arised, he has stood up for the team and performed extremely well both with the bat and his tactics. As a captain, he made a bold decision to drop the usually reliant Bairstow and opted an out of form Saha. This turned out to be a masterstroke, as the veteran wicketkeeper has been blasting runs all around the park.
The last 3 games were a must win for the team to qualify and he has rallied around the team beautifully by beating all the Top 3 teams in the tournament. Known for its strong bowling unit, Sunrisers played to its strengths despite the absence of star bowler Bhuvaneshwar who missed the tournament throughout the series.
David Warner has now scored 500+ runs for the sixth consecutive season and its an exemplary feat not achieved by any batsman in the IPL history. He is now gunning for the Orange Cap which he has won twice before. More importantly, he has the task of winning three in a row against the Top 3. This time, it is not for survival, but for the cup glory.
Back in 2016, when Sunrisers won, they were underdogs. His captaincy along with the team brilliant bowling unit had delivered the cup. We wish Sunrisers win again and bring the cup home. And as for David Warner, please keep entertaining us with both your bat and your amazing dancing skills.
