From today, transgender individuals will be assigned traffic duties in Hyderabad as part of a groundbreaking initiative by the Telangana government.
A total of 39 transgender individuals will be deployed at various traffic junctions and signal points across the city. They have completed 15 days of training within the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate, covering topics such as traffic management, outdoor and indoor duties, and other technical aspects.
During this occasion, Hyderabad Police Commissioner, CP Anand, extended his support to the transgender community, stating that the government’s decision to include transgender individuals in traffic duties is a revolutionary step.
He emphasized that it provides an excellent opportunity for the transgender community to integrate more closely with the general public. The Commissioner also reminded the transgender individuals of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s message that there should be no discrimination against them and that they should be embraced as equals within society.
The initiative is being launched as a 6-month pilot project, with the aim of creating a positive impact not only for transgender individuals in Hyderabad but also for the community nationwide. CP Anand mentioned that if the pilot project is successful in Hyderabad, it could bring about significant improvements for transgender individuals across the country.
He urged the transgender individuals on duty to treat the opportunity with responsibility, ensuring they make the most of the chance provided to them. The project, initiated with the guidance and vision of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, is expected to open doors to further opportunities for the transgender community, setting a progressive example for other cities to follow.
