A woman was set on fire and killed in the subway train in New York City early on Sunday. The man who set her on fire then watched from a bench as she became engulfed in flames and died. He was taken into custody.
The CCTV footage showed the man quietly approaching the woman who appeared to be sleeping. He then set her on fire at the Coney-Island-Stillwell Avenue subway station. He sat on a nearby bench outside the train car and watched as officers and a transit worker extinguished the flames. The woman was declared dead at the scene.
The man was arrested hours later while riding on the same subway line. The reason for the attack is not known yet. The suspect and the victim did not appear to know each other and did not interact before the incident.
The suspect came from Guatemala to the US in 2018.
