The Maha Kumbh Mela is currently underway in Uttar Pradesh. This morning, lakhs of devotees took the first holy dip in Triveni Sangamam in Prayagraj. The government of UP has made all necessary arrangements for the grand religious event, with an investment of 7000 Cr rupees.
More than 40 Crore people are expected to attend the Maha Kumbh Mela as the event is happening after 12 years. More than 50 lakh people took their holy dip on the first day at Sangam. The grand event will happen till February 26th, for 45 days. The necessary arrangements were made for around 4,000 hectares.
The government estimates that the grand event will generate an income of up to Rs. 2 Lakh crore, which will be a big boost to the state’s economic growth.
The estimation is that each person who visits Prayagraj’s Kumbh Mela will spend an average of 5000 rupees. Altogether, the expectation is that the nominal and real GDP will increase by over 1 percent.
Ardh Kumbh Mela, which took place in 2019, generated a revenue of Rs 1.2 lakh crore to the state’s economy. The event witnessed the attendance of 24 crore pilgrims.
This time, the food and beverage sector, including packaged foods, water, biscuits, juices, and meals, is estimated to add Rs 20,000 crore to the overall trade. The religious offerings will contribute an estimated Rs 20,000 crore.
Transportation and logistics are expected to account for Rs 10,000 crore. The tourism services and other activities are likely to contribute another Rs 10,000 crore. Temporary medical camps, Ayurvedic products, and medicines could bring in Rs 3,000 crore.
