It is believed that Working hard would make an individual amass wealth, while some others become affluent without much effort and they are considered lucky.
There is an unlucky person who lost a staggering Rs 6,290 crore due to a small mistake.
A British resident, James Howells, informed the High Court that he had purchased Bitcoin cryptocurrency in 2013. When he purchased the value of Bitcoin was negligible but today, it is worth nearly Rs 6,290 crore.
Howells told the court that due to a friend’s error, the hard drive having the details about the cryptocurrency ended up in the rubbish and was subsequently disposed of in the Newport landfill.
However, the court rejected Howells’ appeal and dismissed his arguments, which included the increasing value of cryptocurrency, his proposal to engage a team of experts for the search, and his offer to share a portion of the recovered value with the council.
The court upheld the Newport Council’s statement that based on existing law, the hard drive, on entering the landfill, becomes the council’s property.
Environmental regulations prohibit the removal of the items, once disposed of in the landfill. Consequently, the court turned down James’ appeal.
The High Court also said that James has no legal basis for his claim. When established in 2009, Bitcoin had no value but now, it has reached a price of 100,000 dollars.
If the hard drive is located, the value of his Bitcoin will exceed Rs 10,500 crore in the future.
