The Government of Telangana, headed by CM Revanth Reddy, has broken the hearts of liquor lovers by increasing the prices of beers in the state.
The Excise Department has issued a GO recently hiking the prices by 15% on existing MRPs on beer brands. The new prices will be effective from today (February 11).
Reportedly, the average price of light beer is around Rs. 150 and strong beer is around Rs. 160 right now, which will be increased to around Rs. 180 and Rs. 200 respectively.
Summer season is arriving and beer consumption will be high during the next 2-3 months. While hiking the prices may increase the income of the Excise Department, a section of people say that it would be a burden for alcoholics who drink beer regularly.
Last month, United Breweries halted the supply of beer to Telangana for a brief period due to pricing and non-payment of dues by the state government. Eventually, it was decided to hike the prices upon the suggestions of a committee headed by retired justice Jaiswal.
