Women’s Kumbh Mela Holy Dip Videos On Sale, Police File Cases

The holy pilgrimage Maha Kumbh Mela is continuing to draw a huge number of devotees, with 55 crore estimated to have taken a holy dip in the waters at Prayagraj so far.

Anti-social elements did not leave even this holy occasion to unleash their criminal activity.

According to reports of the UP government, police filed cases against two social media accounts which allegedly were involved in selling the videos of holy dip by women devotees.

It is learnt that some social media platforms had uploaded the videos violating the privacy and security of the women. The social media monitoring team which identified the violation filed a complaint with the Kotwal police station.

Police informed that they sought details about the erring Instagram account from Meta. It was also observed that some Telegram channels were also selling the videos of women taking holy dip at Prayagraj. Another case was filed in connection with the Telegram channels.

Police is investigating into the cases and warned that severe action would be initiated against those media platforms propagating objectionable and false information.

The Maha Kumbh Mela which started off on January 13 will continue till February 26. It is estimated that the total number of devotees taking a holy dip by the end of the Mela would be 60 crore.

Initially, it was estimated that 45 crore devotees would turn up for the biggest Hindu pilgrimage but by February 14 itself, the number crossed 50 crore.

On January 29 alone, more than 8 crore devotees took a holy dip on the occasion of Mouni Amavasya, sources revealed.
