Tanishq had to face the outrage yet again with their new Diwali ad after they had to take down their previous advertisement after protests began.
When the last ad was about a Hindu daughter-in-law of a Muslim family being treated as a daughter, with the delicate sentiment that did not go well with many, the recent ad is all on celebrating this Diwali cracker-free.
The famous faces of the ad Alaya, Neena Gupta, Nimrat Kaur, and Sayani Gupta celebrate the unique design of the collection with the slogan ‘Ekatvam by Tanishq’. However, the actual controversy triggering point appears to be the line in the ad said by Sayani Gupta, promoting a cracker-free Diwali, “Definitely no firecrackers, but a lot of diyas, a lot of laughter hopefully and positivity”.
This has not gone well and the campaign #BoycottTanishq began on social media where people started questioning why they are being schooled on how to celebrate their festival. Sayani Gupta also tweeted recently on spending the money on sweets for someone who cannot afford to buy, instead of burning crackers on a special day.
Tanishq had to pull down the ad with the outrage as people started the boycott campaign and asked the Jewellers company to sell what they are selling instead of giving ‘gyaan’ on social awareness. With the previous inter-faith marriage theme ad and now the cracker-free ad backfire, we have to see what their statement would be.
