Canada bans all military-style assault weapons

Published by

Two weeks after the country’s unprecedented, deadliest and, horrific mass shooting, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a ban on Friday that no assault-style and military-style weapons will be sold henceforth. And owners with such weapons will be needing to hand over them within two years. (2-year amnesty period)

The worst mass shooting in the history of Canada made Trudeau take a drastic decision and he has explicitly stated in the press conference that from here on, Canadians will not be able to “buy, sell, transport, import, or use military-grade assault weapons.”

Law abiding gun owners who will replenish their gun will also get “fair compensation” for their firearms when they are sold and exported out of the country, he said. As well recall, two weeks ago in Nova Scotia, a gunman went on a 12-hour rampage that killed 22 people.

The Prime Miniter and his Liberal party were planning to introduce gun control measures just before the Nova Scotia shooting, but it was put on hold due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and its lockdown.
