Defending Champions Mumbai Indians successfully defended their IPL title. A stunning effort on both the batting and bowling fronts have helped Mumbai to win against Delhi Capitals by five wickets. The target of 157 seemed to be very easy for Mumbai as they managed to score it in 18.5 overs.
Delhi’s Capitals’ captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bat first. Mumbai banked on this opportunity by dismissing Marcus Stoinis on the first ball of the innings. They have also scalped the wickets of Rahane and Dhawan inside the powerplay. After that, Iyer (65) and Rishab Pant (56) made a partnership of 98 runs and settled the scoreboard of their team. With the help of stunning effort from them, Delhi was able to score 156/7 in 20 overs.
Mumbai came with a clear strategy while chasing this total. They didn’t take any risks and went for the big shots only when needed. Rohit Sharma (67) and Quinton de Kock have made a partnership of 45 runs for the first wicket. Then, Rohit and Surya Kumar Yadav added 45 more runs for the second wicket. By that time, Mumbai’s win was certain. Despite losing quick three wickets during the second half of the innings, Mumbai Indians managed to score 157/5 in 18.5 overs with the help of Ishan Kishan (33*). Now, Mumbai is the only team in history to win five IPL titles.
