Defending runners-up Sunrisers Hyderabad will be facing Rajasthan Royals in its first game of IPL 2025 on March 23 (Sunday) at 3.30 pm. The match will be held at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Ahead of this game, Rajasthan made a big announcement regarding its captain.
It was declared that RR’s incumbent captain Sanju Samson will not be leading the side for the first three matches as he is yet to fully recover from his injury. He will only play as a batter and Riyan Parag will lead the team in these games. That means Sanju will not captain the team in matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings.
If Sanju gets fit by then, he will resume his captaincy from the match against Punjab Kings which will be held on April 5. Until then, he will most likely play as an impact sub.
Rajasthan Royals retained Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer, Dhruv Jurel, Yashaswi Jaiswal and Sandeep Sharma from the last season. In the mega auction, it bought popular players like Nitish Rana, Jofra Archer, Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga, strengthening the squad further.
