Worrying Trend: Husband’s Suicide Due To Wife’s Torture

After being victims for generations, a few women have turned offenders. Of late, there are several cases men are resorting to suicide unable to withstand the torture by their wives. This trend is catching up and needs to be addressed. The law needs to protect men too, say several husbands.

In yet another incident of wife torture, a man died by suicide jumping down from a moving train stating that he had been harassed by his wife since the day they were united. He iterated the same through the extreme step. Ramachandra Badjena, belong ot Kumbharbasta in Odisha, recorded a video on his cell phone before taking the tragic step, said East Coast Division Railway police.

In a melancholic tone, he said: “I am Ramachandra Badjena. I live in Kumbharbasta. I am going to die by suicide and the reason behind the extreme step is my wife Rupali. She had been mentally torturing me and I cannot bear it any more.” After recording the video, he forcefully ended his life by jumping off the train at Nijighar-Tapang and died on the spot.

Following the incident, the Badjena’s parents lodged a complaint against Rupali. Rupali was wedded to Ramachandra two years ago and they have a baby girl. Badjena’s mother said that her daughter-in-law had been harassing her son since they day they were married. She used to frequently threaten my son that she would leave him and go to her parents. In case, we did not send her, she used to abuse our entire family.”

Badjena’s parents gave Rs 20 lakh loan to their son and daughter-in-law hoping it would resolve several problems but it did not happen. This is not a lone case. Recently, a techie Manav Sharma, also died by suicide at his residence in Agra. alleging harassment by his wife. He alleged that she physically assaulted him.

A couple of months ago, a 40-year-old man died at his house in Chamundeshwari Nagar in Karnataka allegedly due to harassment by his wife. The victim said that his wife has been killing him and wants him to die. He lost his job and the wife’s harassment has increased since then. Similarly, a 34-year-old Bengaluru techie was found hanging at his house in December, last year. He too blamed hi wife and in-laws for his extreme step.

In yet another case, a 25-year-old man, Abhishek Bachale, died by suicide in Bhopal after recording a video message accusing his wife and in-laws of mental harassment.
