The US government’s proposals to increase the tariffs on foreign countries are becoming a global concern. Amidst the debates and speculations, the White House announced Tuesday that a sweeping 104 percent tariff on imports from China has gone into effect. The new policy will be imposed starting today, April 9th.
Already, Donald Trump threatened to withdraw China’s retaliatory 34 percent tariffs on American goods. China has not honoured the threat, which resulted in the White House proceeding with the implementation of new policy.
“This is one of the most aggressive trade actions the United States has taken in years,” a White House official said, confirming the new tariff will be collected immediately. The officials are also reviewing the new tariff and the ongoing investigations into Chinese state subsidies.
“If China does not withdraw its 34% increase above their already long-term trading abuses by tomorrow… the United States will impose ADDITIONAL Tariffs on China of 50%, effective April 9th,” said Trump, and as it is, he is implementing the same now.
