An Egyptian model-Instagram influencer Salma al-Shimi was arrested for allegedly doing an ‘offensive’ photoshoot. Her photographer Hossam Mohammad also was arrested. Both were later released on bail. Salma posted in an ancient Egyptian white colored dress.
Salma al-Shimi was charged for taking photos without authorization at an archeological site. The model did a photoshoot at the 4700-year-old Step Pyramid of Djoser at Cairo’s outskirts. She was wearing a body-hugging and revealing white outfit during the photoshoot. The photographer said she entered the site wearing a robe after the staff requested her and she changed when they reached the location.
The photoshoot reportedly lasted only 15minutes. Salma al-Shimi has got more than 115K followers on Instagram. Her pictures from the photoshoot were posted on her Instagram page, while the Egyptian media denounced her pictures as ‘offensive and provocative’.
Salma rubbished accusation on her photos being provocative, also said she was aiming to promote tourism but never intended to offend Egyptian culture. She further said she was unaware of the rules. The photographer said he was disappointed by the criticism on the photo shoot and it would not have been the same if a thin girl was in Salma’s place.
